Modern Baby Book Inspiration - California Newborn Photographer

Before having my son Kaizen in December 2019, I was on the hunt for a modern baby book that would preserve all his sweet memories without overwhelming myself with this task. My mom did an amazing job writing and keeping track of every milestone for my brothers and I. She did this without a fancy camera, the internet or pre-made baby books. I admired her diligence and the way she intentionally put time aside to remember each season. As a photographer, preserving memories is already such a high honor and I knew I wanted to be intentional about this for our own son and future children.

As a mom, there are so many options out there for documenting and preserving memories for your littles. I love documenting his milestones but don’t always have the time or even big desire to write a million paragraphs or come up with a baby book on my own. While searching for a way that would work best for us, I found three amazing companies that make this process easier and hands off! These three options are what we’ve decided to do as a family to commit to documenting and remembering each and every special moment. That way, whether some months I’m on it, or others I’m slacking a little. These services ensure we do have some sort of consistency and accountability to make it happen.

Chatbooks - This is an amazing company making it easy for moms like me who don’t want to think about every time I need to make a photo album or prints. You can link your existing Instagram account to Chatbooks and after 60 images are uploaded, they send you a cute little photo book with free shipping. You can cancel your subscription at any time too. For me, I created a separate Instagram account just for this called @diazfamilylegacy if you want to follow along. There I mostly post iPhone photos I take throughout the week of our family. This shared family account was solely set up for Chatbooks and is a way for us to document the simple moments in between the week. I love how easy it is to use and know that Kaizen will love looking through these stacks of books over the years.

Artifacts Uprising - This is the more in-depth baby book I purchased for Kaizen. I loved the simplicity of the books and how you could easily document little milestones for your kids. This you can handwrite in the different milestones and add keepsakes as well.

The Short Years - One of our brides told me about this app. Although I haven’t stayed as up to date with it, I know a lot of moms would love this alternative. Instead of scrolling through Instagram during those late-night nursing sessions, you can log in each week and keep track of the prompted questions in 5 minutes or less. Every time you complete three chapters in The Short Years Baby Book App, they print and ship your pages to you (at no additional cost). Just pop them in your book! What a great idea! I’ve been loving how quick and easy this option is!
